Guidelines to Purchase an Emory Vehicle


Procurement Services receives the initial request through Emory Express from a department to acquire a new or used vehicle.

  1. A vehicle specification form is faxed to the department; the requisitioner/department completes the form and returns it to Procurement Services.

  2. Procurement Services obtains information relating to Federal and State Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and other regulatory issues.

  3. A Request for Quotations is obtained and a purchase order is completed and submitted to the selected dealership or vendor. In addition to the standard information, the purchase order should reflect if the vehicle is a Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) or other Alternative Fueled Vehicle (AFV).

  4. Delivery lead-times can range from "in-stock" to twenty-six (26) weeks.

Emory's Use of Electric Drive Vehicles on Campus

In an Electric Drive vehicle, the torque is supplied to the wheels by an electric motor that is powered either solely by a battery, or an internal combustion engine using hydrogen, gasoline or diesel, or, by a fuel cell. Emory is utilizing these cars on campus that cost just pennies a day to operate compared to their gasoline-powered counterparts.

Emory has found that the use of these cars assists in optimizing operations and allows the ability to transport people or equipment efficiently, they are easy to operate, and virtually maintenance-free.

Emory's Compliance with the Clean Fueled Fleets Program (CFFP)

The Clean Fueled Fleets Program (CFFP) was developed as a part of the Clean Air Act Amendments and is intended to improve air quality. The purpose of the Clean Fueled Fleets Program is to place more Clean Fueled Vehicles (CFVs) on the road and to help Georgia reduce emissions into the ozone. 

Clean Fueled Vehicles must be certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and meet the clean fueled emissions standards.

Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs) and Propane Vehicles that have been certified to EPA Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) standards or better can reduce tailpipe emissions between 70% and 90%.
Electric Vehicles are certified to Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) standards, with tailpipe emissions reductions of 100%.
